What it can address

Dark, pigmented hair on the face or body, reducing shaving or waxing, and selected ingrown-hair concerns.

Gray, white, blonde and some red hair may not contain enough pigment for an effective laser response.

Preparation

  • Shave as directed, usually the day before or day of treatment.
  • Do not wax, tweeze, thread or epilate the area during the treatment series.
  • Avoid tanning and self-tanner; follow the clinic's sun-exposure protocol.
  • Disclose medications, skin changes and recent procedures.

Appointment experience

The area is assessed and prepared, protective eyewear is used, and laser pulses are delivered in a controlled pattern. Treatment can take from minutes to longer depending on the area. You may feel heat or brief snapping sensations.

Aftercare

  • Use gentle skin care and sun protection.
  • Avoid heat, friction, strenuous exercise or irritants for the period advised.
  • Do not pick or scratch; contact the clinic about blistering, prolonged pain or unexpected reaction.

Course and maintenance

Most people need a series because only some hairs are in an active growth stage at each visit. A common starting range is 6-8 sessions. Timing series by area, often approximately 4-8 weeks. Hormones and biology can drive new growth, so maintenance may be recommended.

Possible risks

Temporary redness, swelling around follicles, sensitivity, pigment change, blistering, burns, crusting, infection or scarring are possible. Risk varies with skin, sun exposure, settings and aftercare. Results vary, and complete permanent removal is not promised.
